How acupuncture can help you have a stress free holiday

Acupuncture has long been known as a perfect gift to give to family members and friends. But what about using acupuncture to help you handle the stress of the holidays? Well, I am glad that you asked, and I will attempt to answer that question in this blog post.

This time of year, we’re often encouraged to think of others, give generously, and help where we can. While these actions are incredibly important, it’s also essential to maintain a balance and stay mindful of your own health. Striking this balance can be challenging, but boosting your well-being with acupuncture can certainly help. Let’s dive into how you can achieve this.

Section 1: Stress Relief

With stress relief there are two different ways to look at it. #1 getting rid of the stressor or #2 helping the body and mind manage stress.

With acupuncture, we are doing the second way. A lot of times in life we can’t really get rid of what stresses us (could be kids, could be spouses, or it could be our jobs), but one thing that we can do is manage that stress better. Acupuncture helps lower the body’s stress response, which is a plus for everybody! Without a high stress response, we can handle those pesky situations better.

Section 2: Boosting Energy

The deep relaxation and improved sleep that often result from acupuncture treatments can help the body to repair and rejuvenate itself more effectively. Consequently, individuals who undergo acupuncture often report feeling more energized, focused, and capable of handling daily tasks with greater ease and efficiency. This holistic approach underscores acupuncture’s role in fostering an energized and balanced body. This means that you can shop the sales longer or maybe you can wrap the presents all in one go. And after all that, you might still have enough energy to walk the dog!

Section 4: Improving Sleep

If you are a parent and your kids have not disrupted your sleep, go ahead and raise your hand… nobody? Well you are not alone. Having kids and having the holidays right around the corner usually means a lot less sleep for the parents.

Even if you don’t have kids, the holidays can still wreck your circadian rhythms by late-night parties, eating food that you usually don’t eat, staying over at a house with an uncomfortable bed and too large of pillows; the list can go on and on with things that can throw off your regular sleep routine.

Acupuncture has been found to be great for sleep. Numerous research studies have shown a good affect, although how it actually helps with sleep is still not understood from a western medical perspective. You can learn how acupuncture can help with sleep with this article.

So let’s say that you can’t come in to get a treatment. What can you do to help with sleep?

  1. Get into a good sleep routine. Sleep routine is key for good sleep hygiene. This means the same time, the same steps to get ready for sleep, and preferably at least the same pillow.
  2. Put the screens down at least 30 minutes before sleep. This includes cell phones, tablets, computers, laptops, tv’s and even VR goggles.
  3. Try taking magnesium before sleep. Take powdered magnesium 15-30 minutes before sleep.
  4. Studies have shown that optimal sleep temperature is between 60-67 degrees Fahrenheit.

Section 5: Digestive Health

Some of the most common digestive issues that arise during the holiday season are:

  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Upset stomach
  • Food poisoning (the biggest culprit is the turkey)
  • Allergic reactions to foods
  • etc, etc.

I would encourage you to read the article that we have about acupuncture for digestive disorders. It will give you a good summary of how acupuncture helps with them.
